What’s the difference between a private and custom Cuba tour?
Both custom and private tours are organised exclusively for your group and are not open to the public. Subject to availability, you can schedule either tour option for dates that suit you.
Our private tours in Cuba feature our existing packages, but are booked just for your own group on your preferred dates. The itinerary and inclusions are already set for these tours, so you’ll get exactly what’s detailed on our website for the package you choose, but on your preferred departure date.
A customised tour features options that you've selected. You choose the destinations you prefer and activities that suit your interests and we’ll create a tour that includes them.
Generally, private tours can be more cost-effective than custom tours as they require less time to organise.
How to book private Cuba tours
To book a private tour, choose one of our existing tour package itineraries and complete this short form detailing the number of people in your group and your preferred tour dates. If you can’t decide which tour is best for you, use our travel style guide to narrow down the most suitable experiences.
Note that the per person rate for our private tours will change to reflect the group size—the per person rate reduces as the size of your group grows. The private tour rate for one to two people is higher than for a group of six to eight. For example, our standard 8-day Original Tour usually costs around US $700 per person for a standard departure date, however, the private tour price for the same tour on your preferred departure date is closer to US $1400 per person for two people.
How to create a custom Cuba tour
Design your own itinerary with our help. Complete our custom tour request form with your travel dates, interests and the size of your group and our travel specialists will prepare a customised package with activities and accommodation for you.
Custom tour costs generally start at US $3000 for small groups of one to four people. The bigger the group, the less your per-person rate will be.
Choosing your tour accommodation
Our private tours have defined activities and accommodations included in each package, however, if you are booking a customised tour option, there are many options for you to choose from.
We prefer to use Cuban guesthouses or casas particulares that we have vetted for accommodation on our tours. These range from family homes to luxury boutique hotels, each with Cuban style and flair.
When you stay in a Cuban guesthouse, you support local families while experiencing life on the island firsthand. Most travellers find that our accommodation selections are one of the highlights of their tour. In line with our responsible tourism policy, we prioritise support for local families and businesses. We therefore don't usually recommend hotels as an accommodation option, but they can be booked on request.
Custom tour accommodation
We offer three categories of casas particulares for our Cuba custom tours. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning.
A more modern setup with split-system air conditioning, natural light and beautiful linen.
These are usually only available in Havana. Their interiors surpass those of most private guesthouses in Cuba, and each property offers high-quality amenities, decor, linen, Wi-Fi and room service.

Customise activities for your tour
Boredom is not an option in Cuba, with various activities, excursions and day trips available in each destination. If possible, give yourself enough flexibility during your tour to change or add new activity options along the way if you see something that interests you.
Consult with your local tour leader about which activities they recommend. Many of them can be easily arranged once you’re in Cuba. However, it is best to arrange some large group activities in advance to ensure availability so your tour runs smoothly. Tell us about the experiences you don’t want to miss, and we’ll include them in your custom tour package.
